South Korean writer-director July Jung’s second feature following A Girl at My Door (2014), is a powerful, brilliantly acted psychological drama inspired by real life events.
Cheerful, dance-loving high school student Sohee (Kim Si-eun) starts an internship at a call centre. The job soon turns out to be highly demanding and Sohee finds herself disillusioned and struggling to the point where she can't take it. When detective Oh Yu-jin (Bae Doo-na) investigate her death, she unravels Sohee’s past and the twisted, deeply toxic and exploitative reality of the job market in South Korea – referred to as a "management of terror” by employees, authorities and the education system alike.
With sobriety and precision director July Jung depicts a chilling and condensed contemporary portrait of youth exploited by unpaid internships.
