Wei Fei (Chuanjun Wang), a struggling screenwriter living in Beijing, finds himself left behind in the fast-paced world of the film industry. Yet the promise of success might finally be within reach when his long-stalled script is finally set for release re-imagined as a ‘Chinese Mecha Sci-fi epic’. At the same time, unannounced, his father Lao Wei (Chaoying Xu) arrives from their rural hometown with a rare bowl possibly from the Song Dynasty: could fortune and fame finally be within reach? Heartfelt and universal, Lei Xu’s second feature, Green Wave is a subtle, often hilarious Chinese family comedy-drama that captures the emotional complexity of a father-son reunion with sharp-witted social commentary.
